Jo Villa
I am a Bioinformatician interested in finding patterns from sequence-based data. On a biological scale, I am interested in understanding how organisms regulate gene expression and what unique features enable survival to different types of stressors. During my graduate work at the University of Texas at Austin, I explored the mechanisms of the radioresistant bacterium, Deinococcus radiodurans, and examined specifically the role of RNA regulators. Currently, I am studying the differences in individuals’ immune systems and how that correlates with risk of diseases. When not researching, I am likely outside either horseback riding or long-distance running/hiking with my two energetic dogs.
