Course Intermediate Python Skills for BiologistsCourse overview

Python is a user-friendly and powerful programming language for use in the biological sciences. While a basic understanding of Python provides a sufficient toolset for many applications and analyses, this course will dive into some additional concepts and applications of Python. This will not only give you new tools but will also help you think in new programming structures and be able to understand a wider range of Python code. This course will give participants hands-on practice with intermediate python techniques in addition to some practical theory.

The course will cover intermediate topics of the Python programming language, including functional and object-oriented programming as well as the library biopython and APIs.

By the end of this course, participants will understand:

  • What object-oriented programming is and how to implement it in Python
  • What functional programming is and how to implement it in Python (with a focus on higher order functions and list comprehension)
  • What an API is and how to access one
  • How to use the biopython library to analyze biological data

Participants of the course Introduction to Python for Biology can benefit from a 20 % discount on this course. If you have taken the introductory course in the past, or if you are taking both courses, please add that information in the registration form for this course.
