Git is popular free, open source tool for managing code-based products. Code backup is often how new coders first encounter git – but it does so much more! By tracking changes in the source code, git facilitates version control, collaboration, and non-linear development. This course is for individuals who have never used git and are git-curious.
We will explain the basic concepts of git code repositories and introduce the core vocabulary. Participants will each create a repository on GitHub (free git hosting service) for a small R project and will then learn to make and manage edits their own and each other’s code. Tasks such as branching, committing, pushing, pulling, and merging code will be practiced using the command line, the git tools within RStudio, and the visual git management tool Fork.
Dr. Ashton Drew is owner of data consulting firm KDV Decision Analysis LLC and an R Studio Certified Tidyverse and Shiny instructor.
Places are limited to 16 participants.
Some familiarity with R and RStudio is required.

In the live sessions we will combine online lectures with hands-on exercises.
Live sessions will be recorded. However, attendance to the live sessions is required to obtain the course certificate.
